It was originally developed for MacOS, which can be seen in its design. Thanks to the small size and basic functionality of the software, it is one of the most responsive image viewers in its category. Just downloaded and started to use FastStone Viewer and editor, gee I have always used Nero Snap viewer and ACDsee Pro4 to view my photos but this new one is very good and I can now quickly view my RAW files without having to convert to JPEG first.ĪCDSee is an image viewer that uses very little system resources, and it has a small, sleek size that won't take up much space on your system. That's where ACDSee's omission of a double-buffer shines (Also where most other viewers fail).Īnd it doesn't do thumbnail view. Tho annoyingly, it doesn't count the clicks of the wheel when spun very fast and move on to the correct image when it can't keep up. I've tried other viewers and media organizers, but ones that want to scan and collect file locations from all my hard drives scare me thinking that, "Do I want to give up my old tried and true ways to go with something new that I don't understand and would have to invest time to learn?" Sticking with my ways is a trait that comes from being an "old fart" I suppose, but I also see it as a sign of ancient wisdom. I tried fastpictureviewer which was VERY fast when setup properly, but for file organization it wouldn't do. But, those two programs combined with Xplorer2 for old school, tree view, text based file management is how I do my hard drive housekeeping. Image Viewer, which is FREE, has the nice black background for thumbnails and a load of other fantastic features, but it doesn't have the speed or easy organizational features I'm used to in 2.43. If I want to see EXIF in ACDSEE I right click> then shell> then open with FastStone Image Viewer. It's blazing viewing speed both forward and backward within a directory is something I also appreciate and find hard to give-up. Years and years of use has made it very comfortable. Since Windows Photo View is included with Windows, there really isn't a good reason to seek out an alternative photo viewer.ĪCDSee 2.43 is still my main photo viewer and image organizational tool. Yes, ACDSee Free is lightweight and quick but Windows Photo Viewer isn't a slouch either. Zoom in and out of photos with the '+' and '-' keys or quickly set it as your desktop background from the 'Tools' menu.ĪCDSee Free's greatest strength is also its greatest weakness. ACDSee Free gives you a great image viewer that responds quickly. ACDSee Free is a simple photo viewer that doesn't feature a bunch of bells and whistles that slow it down.Īpps like Adobe Lightroom are great for managing and touching up huge image libraries but they are often slow and resource heavy. If you think that the stock Windows Photo Viewer is too slow, then you may want to give ACDSee Free a try.
